Japanese singer-songwriter Yoshinori Monta, known for ‘Dancing All Night,’ dies

OSAKA (Kyodo) — Japanese singer-songwriter Yoshinori Monta, who wrote the mega-hit “Dancing All Night” in 1980, has died of aortic dissection, his office revealed through his official blog on Sunday. He was 72.

Monta, whose real name was Yoshinori Kadota, became a professional singer in 1971 and formed the band “Monta & Brothers” in 1980. They released the smash hit song in the same year, featuring his signature husky voice.

Although the group disbanded in 1984, Monta continued his music activities mainly in the Kansai region.

Monta died on Wednesday morning, according to his office.
